AustriaEnergy expands Chile
mega-project
Renewable energy buildout grows
AustriaEnergy, Ökowind and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ project
in southern Chile will expand to a second phase, entailing 5 GW of
onshore wind capacity. In total, AustriaEnergy reports that it has 9
GW of renewable capacity under development in the region, spread
across two electrolytic hydrogen production sites, four wind and/or
solar PV generating sites, and potentially a further five wind energy
sites (an additional 1 GW) planned. Sales of renewable energy
generating assets and a new public share offering will help finance
the project.
HNH Energy
Launched in 2019, the HNH Energy project has been
proceeding steadily. The focus has been on engagement with key
stakeholders (particularly the local residents of San Gregorio), and
development of key infrastructure like
shared port facilities. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners joined
the project in early 2022. The project developers indicate their
immediate focus is environmental impact assessments and project
permits, with construction beginning in 2025. You can take a
virtual tour of the site in Magallanes via the project website.
